Opposability

David Brooks wrote an opinion titled "Skills in Flux" in the New York Times today about skills that are needed but unnamed in the modern world. Brooks provides a list of these skills, but the skill I found most interesting is opposability.

Quoting J.F.K., opposability is "the ability to hold two opposed ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function." In my life, the concept of opposability takes the form of the below question.

Should I work toward any form of good or only the greatest good?

I still don't have a good answer, but I'd love to hear yours.
