Full Gym
I haven't gone to the gym often in the past, but today was the first time ever that I had to wait in a line to get into Student Rec. Supposedly, the same was true for Southwest Rec. But once getting inside the gym, my thoughts shifted to the experience itself.
I'll generally keep my headphones in up to 15 minutes into my workout before I unplug and soak in the sights, sounds, and sensations that are the modern-day gym. For one, the feats of strength on view are often incredible, from the weights lifted above one's head to the speed at which the girl next to me on a treadmill keeps steady for forty-five minutes without break. For two, the sounds are rather entertaining--depending where you stand, you might hear the swish of the erg, the grinding of an unoiled elliptical, or the occasional grunt that comes with a swift clean and jerk. For three, there's the runner's high. I have to be farther into my work to enjoy that bliss, but when it comes, your body just hurts so good.
I like the gym, and I'll like it more when it starts opening up at 7:00am.
