College Week 2
This past week has been a jumble of events so I hope to brief in their description.
On Sunday, I went to St. Augustine Catholic Church for the first time and I got a really good vibe about the place. I'll probably be joining the choir which rehearses Thursday nights and maybe I'll do bible study as well. The difficulty with committing now is some scheduling but I may be able to clear it up. Following, I did some laundry and did some reading for Spanish. That evening, I attended a GAC meeting and was officially granted the title of Floor Representative of Graham Hall. Right before going to bed, I prepped for all of my classes and got ready for the coming week.
On Monday, I went to Spanish, Macroeconomics, and Calculus in the morning. I spent the early afternoon having lunch in the Reitz Union with my friend Chas Caughell from middle school and we caught up on how we were doing and where everyone else was. We talked a good deal about our past Marching Band careers and the condition of our past respective bands now. I had a Caesar salad at Croutons and it was delicious! Before we departed, we made sure to stop by and interrupt Emily's studies before going our separate ways. Mid-afternoon, I interviewed at the Education Library for a Student Assistant position. Lo and behold, I got it! I received some paperwork and quickly rushed to file it. I had to stop at the bank to obtain a direct deposit slip and in my residence hall to pick up other miscellaneous documents before I rushed to Library West. Arriving at Human Resources around 4:25, I had to fill out ten or more pages of paperwork related to the job before 5:00. Being the technical reader that I am, it was challenge to read through everything in a short period of time. Nonetheless, the paperwork was completed and forwarded to processing. Due to my running across campus myriad times, I skipped Catholic Gators and went home to eat, study and sleep. It was a proud to get my official first job.
On Tuesday, I went to Macroeconomics and First-Year Florida. Macroeconomics is always interesting but sometimes complicated so I'll try not to discuss the subject material but discussion in First-Year Florida provided a wealth of information for Pre-Law students. I'm still not sure whether or not I want to be a lawyer, but I'm now armed with greater knowledge of the potential future and what may unfold. I spend midday reading and doing homework. To be honest, I was in a bit of lull and had trouble studying. I may have been catching a cold so I was reminded of the importance of healthy and hygienic practices. That evening, I caught the beginning of a Student Government Senate meeting and the Introductory meeting to Model UN. To be frank, I found Student Government exhilarating with the approval of past meetings' minutes and the passage of motions; I really hope to get involved in Student Government during my time at UF. As well, Model UN is clearly a great organization to be actively involved in. The travel moderately and give root to a wide background in international governance. Finishing these meetings, I returned to my room around 10:00 and I went to bed.
On Wednesday, I went to Spanish, Macroeconomics, and Calculus. Calculus was more nerve-racking than usual because I had a quiz the following day. I was definitely on edge. Afterwards, I made my way to University Bookstore to purchase some graph paper and a H-ITT Clicker. I made my purchase and they gave me a free Red Bull. On my way back to my room, I stopped by First-Year Florida professor's office during his office hours. I was pleasantly surprised to hear I was the first student that had come during his office hours in the past two years. We discussed some of my options and I determined I won't be applying to the Honors College. Based on the curriculum and other facets of the program, it's just not what I'm looking for. However, that's not to say it isn't for others. It's a great program whose merits may prove more valuable to other students. I dropped off my stuff, did some reading, and then went to a Mentoring Youth meeting at 7:00 in the Reitz Union. They discussed the program and I found that I wasn't available during the required hours. Regardless, it's a great program for those who choose to pursue it. While I waited for a Rowing meeting at 9:00, I saw Kaila and Erin in the food court and just hung out for a bit. It was nice just to relax and laugh. I went to the Rowing Meeting and found that the required commitment asked for two hours, six nights a week. I can't make such a commitment so I had to pass but from meeting the students who are involved, one would find that Rowers are not just incredible athletes but great people too.
On Thursday, I took my weekly Calculus quiz. Though I haven't mentioned throughout this post yet, I studied a minimum of ten hours for this single quiz with the aspiration of getting off to a good start. I was really nervous to take this quiz. But when the time came, I was familiar with the material, computed the answers, and turned in my quiz. I spent the rest of the morning doing laundry. While the clothes were in the dryer, I contacted the coordinator at the Education Library to find that was able to work and should come in as soon as possible. I moved quickly to fold my clothes, change to meet the dress code, and made my way to the Education Library. I worked my first shift was dutifully trained by Tiffany, April, and Carol. I'm going to enjoy working here. : ) After I finished my shift, I had dinner and headed to the Reitz Union to qualify as a candidate for Student Government. I spoke with both parties and considered my options. I went home, studied, watched some Seinfeld, and went to bed.
Friday was a whirlwind of events but I like when things are eventful. I went to Spanish and quickly returned to my room to change into business attire for an interview with the party of my desired slating, respectively. To be honest, I don't think my interview went very well but I may stop by on Tuesday to speak with one of the party's representatives to determine I have any other options. I then returned quickly to my room, changed back into college kid clothing and went to Calculus. I worked my shift at the Education Library, went to my room, packed, and made my way back to Bradenton. The drive was a rough total of three hours but it went by quickly. Arriving at the BRHS-LRHS game, I was overjoyed to see the band in all of its glorious presence. I bought my ticket, entered the stadium, and stopped to say hi to a few people. While I wasn't looking, I was jumped by a beautiful girl who said only three words and then rushed off to solve a problem involving podiums. The band was arching up on the track for warm-ups and I conducted through A, E, & F. Before the band went on, I had the privilege of wishing every band member, "Have a good show," before they arched up on the field to share some music with the crowd. It was a wonderful sight to see. Third quarter came and went and then fourth quarter I arrived. I took the scaffolding once again as aged Drum Major and finished out conducting for the rest of the game. It was a blast. : ) The Pirates didn't win, which means I owe someone an ice cream, but I had a lot of fun and was happy that I could make it. I finally got to exchange a few words with Ashley and kissed her good night. <-- By far, that had to be the highlight of my night.
On Saturday, I helped my mom move to her apartment and had dinner with Halls.
Most wonderful than anything though, I got to hang out with Ashley. I really can't give words to the overflowing joy that course through my mind and heart just to be with her. She makes me smile. : ) Despite wanting not to, we said good night, and I went home.
